The Deep Diving course takes you to the limits of recreational diving. It has a more serious tone than other courses but still keeping the fun recreational aspect. Diving to these new limits requires only a little more equipment and skills than shallower diving. However, it is important to understand the implications of diving at greater depths.
Structure of the Deep Diving course
This course is divided into three distinct sections. Theory, pool session and then open water dives from the boat.
The knowledge and procedures for deep diving
The theory covers topics specific to conducting deeper dives as they require additional preparation, planning, and procedures. It also covers the theory in using safety and redundant equipment.
Another important part of the theory is about nitrogen or gas narcosis. Jacques-Yves Cousteau named this phenomenon “Rapture of the deep” because of what it can do to divers.
You will also learn or review how to calculate gas consumption with a SAC rate. This will help with planning tanks, gas, and reserve.
Pool session and orientation
The pool sessions aim to evaluate competencies of the participants. This is important because, in deeper diving, buoyancy control and mastery of basic skills are crucial for safety. The instructor will help to prepare adequately for the dives in the ocean.
Dives conducted in open water
The purpose of the dives in a natural environment is to gradually expose students to deeper dives. In the first place, to apply the basic skills and procedures. Then in real life situation on deep dives in the 30 meters / 98 feet to 40 meters / 131 feet.
Schedule of the Deep Diving course
Courses are scheduled according to your needs and are flexible in the days for greater satisfaction. On the first two days, times can change but on the days a trip and open water dives are planned, students must be present at the dive center the latest at 7:30 AM if they choose not to use our free shuttle service.
For basic courses with four dives, most are completed in 4 days. An additional day of development and practice can be added before moving to open water dives. It is also possible to take the option of doing 2 more dives with guidance and under the supervision of an instructor. In this case, the course requires an extra day. What you need to know about the Deep Diving course
The Deep Diving course does not teach you how to properly and safely execute dives that have decompression obligations. This course stays in the recreational limits at all time.
Depths are set by the instructor regarding conditions, readiness, skills and most of all safety.
Inscription and payment of the course do not guarantee the issue of the certification card. It comes down to the abilities and knowledge of each participant. What will allow the issuing of a certificate is the evaluation and judgment of the instructor as well as the one of from the center dive manager according to the demonstrated skills by students. To understand more about this you can visit our Certification Conditions page.
In the Deep Diving course, participants cannot select the dive sites.
Courses will take place no matter the weather or sea conditions as long as it does not create greater risks and safety concerns compared to normal diving activities.
